classifying people....

  • There are 3 kinds of people in the world: those who can count and those who cannot.
  • There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who can count in binary and those who cannot.

It appears to be a popular theme these days: is it appropriate to classify people, and, if yes, what classifications are and are not appropriate.

E.g., is it OK to divide people into...

  • "faithful"/"infidels"?
  • "smart"/"stupid"?
  • "Jews"/"Gentiles"?
  • "nice"/"rude"?

I think that people who indulge themselves with such discussions do not realize how unbelievably lucky they are to be able to afford that. They are forgetting the fundamental classification - "those who want to kill myself"/"those who are not interested in killing myself" - probably because they think that the first class is void or vanishing.

Open your eyes and...

Think again.
