Tom dropped out of public school and took a bus to the nearby mosque early every morning, seven days a week. Tom soon changed his name to Omar...

"That so Omar? So tell me, what else do they teach at your school?"
"I want to be a martyr for Allah, in Lebanon or Miami.

Mar. 16th, 2011 10:28 amThere is an unfortunate trend in the contemporary Orthodox Judaism when able-bodied men spend their whole lives in "Kollelim" - "colleges" where all they ever do is learn Torah, receiving a meager stipend. Note that the vast majority of these men will never "graduate": they will never teach, never make a halachic decision, they will never write a book, they will never say anything new or even ask a new question.
This would have been fine if it were their private business.
Alas, it is not:
I wonder how those people reconcile their behavior with these quotes from Ethics Of The Fathers (Mishnah Pirkei Avot):
and with many stories from the Talmud about various great Rabbis who worked for a living.

- They dodge the draft in Israel
- They are supported by the Israeli taxpayers
- They spread the poisonous anti-work ideology: e.g., a teacher at a Chabad day care in Brooklyn, NY, USA, told her 5 y.o. pupils that Yakov was good because he learned Torah, and Eisav was bad, because he worked (not murdered/robbed/raped, but merely worked).

В годы застоя и дефицита полюбилась одна хорошая русская девушка иностранцу, вроде бы англичанину. В результате они поженились и она поехала жить к мужу. Муж был то ли писатель то ли переводчик, больших городов не любил и жил в маленькой, удаленной от цивилизации деревушке. Однако в деревушке был магазин, в котором было все.
Но советского человека не проведешь... Такого быть не может, поняла девушка, это либо показуха, или к фествалю какому готовятся, или дефицит к концу года выбросили. А раз так, то надо делать запасы.
Муж с любовью и жалостью смотрел, как кладовка пополняется консервами, макаронами, мылом, солью и спичками. Он пытался объяснить, что капитализм будет загнивать еще долго и мыло не исчезнет. Девушка верила, но советско-хомячий инстинкт требовал, и новые пакетики супа тихо появлялись в кладовке.
А потом пошел снег, да такой, какого сотни лет не было. Магазин каждодневно пополнялся приезжавшей машиной и запасов не держал. Дороги завалило напрочь и надолго, провода оборвались, деревушку отрезало капитально. Но голода не наступило и эвакуации не произошло. Вся деревушка питалась у торжествующей (я же говорила!!!) русской хозяйки.
