...мир с арабами невозможен ни завтра, ни послезавтра, ни через 50 лет. Он невозможен в принципе. Арабы не примирятся с существованием независимого еврейского государства. Это не тактическое, а принципиальное решение. Их цель – уничтожить эту страну. Мир, по исламским канонам, наступит только с триумфом ислама. И они идут к своей цели в Европе, России, а сегодня и в США. Прежде чем начинать переговоры, надо увидеть мир с точки зрения ислама.
Для мусульман само существование Израиля – это реверс истории, вынужденное отступление с уже завоеванных позиций. Они не смирятся с этим ни при каких обстоятельствах. Хуже того, они не воспринимают евреев даже как народ, отрицают историю евреев, их существование как этноса.
Арабы используют природное тяготение левых ко всем репрессивным тоталитарным режимам, сколь бы отвратительны они ни были. Они поддерживали и Гитлера, выдвинув его кандидатом на Нобелевскую премию. По времени это совпало как раз с Хрустальной ночью. Арабы умело используют стремление Запада к сиюминутным, скорым решениям.

She gives a couple of potential explanations: "When adult sons live at home, they add to the daily workload of their parents. When adult daughters live at home, they decrease the daily workload." Also, "females offer more and better social support than do men" and "an enormous human motivation is avoiding being lonely." She continues: "When we add up these facts, a conclusion we might draw is that wives with daughters are less likely to stay with their husbands because they know that with a girl, they'll never be lonely or without help. Thus, they may be less willing to tolerate any bad behaviors from their husbands (and less willing to stay married) because they don't need their husbands as much. This idea could even explain why couples expecting a girl are less likely to marry: A woman carrying a girl anticipates that she won't need a husband."

The explanation above sounds like complete tosh to me.
Pinker et al offers a different explanation: evolutionally, a woman's success in life is predicated on her looks, so her father cannot give her much after conception. A man's success depends on his fater's status, so sticking around for a son makes sense for the father. And even if "the woman is leaving the man in 73 percent of divorces", it does not mean that the man has nothing to do with it - maybe he just did not care about keeping the woman...
I cannot say that I am particularly happy with this explanation either...

Adding fuel to the controversy over the proposed Ground Zero mosque, mischievous Fox News host Greg Gutfeld has declared his own plan to build a gay bar catering to Muslims next to the Islamic center. Gutfeld claims he's opening the night spot to "reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world," and hopes the mosque's supporters will show the same tolerance toward his bar that they've demanded from their critics, who say the mosque's location is insensitive to victims of the 9-11 attacks.

I think they also need a shelter for battered women next to each mosque in the US.

I came to the USA for the first time on September 11, 1992 as a math grad student at UCLA. Here is what happened at the San-Francisco airport. (Aeroflot did not fly to Los Angeles at that time, so had to take a bus from SF to LA). My English was lousy - I could read, of course, but I had a hard time understanding spoken words - in part because I was taught the British phonetics in the Soviet Union.

The INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service, as it was called then) official (a big guy wearing an impressive uniform - probably also adorned with a gun and handcuffs - but that may be my later imagination) looked at my papers and asked:

"You will be a graduate student in math at UCLA, won't you?"

"Yes" - I answered.

"Well, and what is π?"

Here I should notice that here in the United States people pronounce π as pie (in my home country, Russia, they say pee). I did not know that, so I did not understand what he was asking about:

"Pie? Cake?" - I asked.

"No. I'm talking about circles!" - he answered, and it seemed to me that he was not quite happy.

"Round cake? Torte?" - I was still lost.

"No! Pie in the area of circle!" - he said, and this time I wish I were dreaming.

"?!?!"

"Okay! Area is pie are squared!" - he said angrily.

I understood only words area and square, and tried to say something about Squaring the Circle - the ancient problem of erecting with ruler and compass the square of the same area that of the given circle (which is unsolvable since π is not a root of a quadratic equation with integer coefficients). The problem was exaggerated by the fact that at that time I did not know yet the words compass and ruler, and used instead words circle and line, which are very close to the corresponding Russian words.

"No!!!" - he yelled and wrote on a piece of paper

Here I began to understand something and feverishly cried the following digits: "four, one, five, nine, two..."

He was satisfied, he stamped my papers and let me through.

Of course, he did not try to "catch" me, he was just making a conversation, but I was scared to death and was wondering whether he was going to charge me with espionage and not allow to enter the United States...
